System - XBOX
Review by Brian King

Commonly movie based games are absolute junk, aside from occasions where the game is actually better than the movie "Chronicles or Riddick". There has always been a bit of pride in all the Star Wars games as the developers are like the rest of us fans of the great saga. When fans are involved in the creating of a game like battlefront, the end result is an overwhelming feeling of experiencing the action first hand.

You've seen the wars, now live them:
Grab a speeder and go tackle and At-At with a tow cable, grab a Xwing and take out a tie fighter, watch out for the sarlak in dune sea. The fans of star wars have been asking for a game like this for years. There has been so many star wars games its hard to imagine why this has not been attempted before. I am glad they waited though, for some key features like Xbox live, and the graphics......oh the joy.

Nothing like a good ol' blaster at your side kid:
Trust me the blaster may seem like a lame weapons compared to an EMP launcher, but sometimes its all you got when your hunkered behind a rock waiting for some bitch to drop some ammo on you. That's just one of the tight spots you will wind up in during the battles, trust me this game is tense. With the right approach you can find several ways to make a devastating attack on your opponent. This game is not like Counter-strike, it is team based, but its more strategy then "I am going to hide in the 1 pixel behind the door and camp some suckers."

You will drop into a map and be asked what team to pick, depending on the war Galactic civil ( Empire or Rebels ) or Clone wars ( Clones and Droids ).Pick a class (demolition, scout, pilot, rockets or sniper) and get in there soldier! Its a well balanced system shit the rocket launchers are awesome but after you shoot a tank a couple times your pistol whipping people looking for a ammo box.

Capturing spawn locations "bases" is basically how to win, both teams start with an evan number of spawn bases, then you run out and try and take a base by holding it for a period of time killing any enemies that try to keep it for their team. This results in some crazy shoot outs, sometimes youll have to run and find a tank and get some extra troops in there to take some of the spots over. Oh and did i mention you can use the enemies vehicles! Naboo is one of the best levels for taking bases the main strong point is quite a feat to take down. Grab the enemies tank tell someone to grab gunner seat, fight for a bit and grab the other tank, all of a sudden you have totally f**k up the enemies defense. Unless of course they strap a couple mines to your broke ass.

Forget the force..... this TIE bomber will do:
Vehicles are a huge part of battlefront, depending on the level you can have up to 8 i believe at once flying around and so forth. Special guess sometimes fly in on their little star fighters, yah you can grab them.

You don't need a license to drive these big rigs, just run up next to what you wanna jack hit "Y" and hope there is a users manual. Vehicles have unlimited ammo, and if your a pilot and you dont fly like your trashed like a frat boy after the championship game. Pilots regenerate vehicle health, may it be an xwing, a turret, or an At-At. Also you can hop out and use your blow torch to fix you ship, but as far as I have seen that just gets your throat slip and your ship stolen.

Online play:
This could be cause I am just overly picky but XBOX live play with Star wars battle front has been a bit "questionable". Sometimes you might spend 5-15 minutes just to find a game that isnt laggy as hell, dropping people left and right. Or the always popular "This session has ended" when you friend just sent your an invite and is currently playing.

Get on a good server, find a friend or 2 or 8, and this game is maybe just maybe one of the best online games for 2004. Luckily for everyone who loves battlefront, lucasarts will have an update with a new map and a software patch. So the light side of this game may shine again.

The Bottom Line:

Gameplay: 9.0

Fast, fun, simple, shit a kid could be kicking my ass on xbox live. This game is a great game for pick up and play, get a match in before work like I did today. Just dont loose it could put a damper on your day.

Graphics: 9.0

Not too shabby, I think we have all been spoiled by games like SC: Pandora Tomorrow. SW Battlefront definitely looks crisp, shit the opening menu might be my favorite for any game.

Sound: 9.5

Its WAR so expect great dolby digital, just like any Star Wars game this is a treat for anyone with 2 ears, with just 1 its kind of a bummer I am told. You need to watch the screen from the side.

Depth: 7.0

Single player this game is lacking, its very short, could be done in a few hours maybe. Multiplayer this game is a gift from the gods. Definitely one of the finest multiplayer games this year. Small drawback is the options for multiplayer, but hopefully with this patch that will change.

Overall: 9.0
